Snow on the porch

Ohio 2008

It’s remarkable how many people were cleaning the snow off the sidewalk in front of their home this morning. For whom? Outside of the immediate surroundings of the university, the supermarket and some coffee shops, I’ve only seen four pedestrians since I got here. Judging by the foot steps in the snow on my way back this evening, the sidewalks really do get used very little. So why do so many people go through the trouble of removing the snow?

Because, IF someone falls in front of your house, you’ll get sued! And I’ve heard rumours, that that’s not a good thing in the US of A ;-).

Fair enough, but if they’re afraid of getting sued, they should clean the sidewalk properly. The areas that were “cleaned” yesterday were much more slippery this morning than the areas were no snow had been removed.

Yeah well, I just wish there was some snow over here instead of this stupid gray, rainy, lousy weather.
